Anti viral drug for RSV infection achieves Phase I results

Positive results have been released for the trial of a new anti viral drug designed for RSV infection.

Data from the Phase I inhalation trials of ALN-RSV01 were made public at the 18th Annual Drug Delivery to the Lungs meeting held in Edinburgh, with delegates being told that all major objectives were achieved.

These include the definition of a safe and tolerable dose and regimen that will pave the way for advancement of ALN-RSV01 into further Phase II development.

Commenting on the randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of healthy adult volunteers, Akshay Vaishnaw, vice president of Clinical Research of Alnylam, noted that the inhaler administration of ALN-RSV01 was highly effective and that there were no severe or serious adverse events.

"These results put us firmly into Phase II development with the ongoing experimental infection study, and now with a planned multi-dose inhalational Phase II strategy in naturally infected adults," Mr Vaishnaw said. "We are excited about the continued development of this novel RNAi therapeutic."

Masters sources comparator drugs for stage II and stage III clinical trials from a vast array of global manufacturers and has the logistical capabilities to turnaround requests within 24 hours.
